Real Book Refined
The Jazz "Real Book" has long been known as one of the starting points for musicians learning the song selections, composers, and harmony of jazz music. It is an outdated and inaccurate resource that often leads young instrumentalists more confused than empowered. The "Real Book Refined" is creating a compiled database of the most popular jazz standards and originals called in a modern jam session. With this project, any musician will easily be able to understand the primary songs, recordings, and harmony used in today's jazz music scene!
My Story
During my first semester as a Graduate student at the Peabody Institute, I became extremely interested in the resources that young musicians have to learn more about jazz music. Whether a student was beginning as a new jazz enthusiast or switching from another genre of music, I found that the available resources varied widely from place to place on the traditions of Black American Music. Through The Peabody Kindling Program, I was able to create the idea behind my first venture - Real Book Refined!

So how exactly can someone learn jazz today? Through proper knowledge, mentorship, and application, anyone can progress in jazz music today. That is my reason for creating "Real Book Refined". I want to help as many people as possible learn as fast as possible! With the proper experience, wisdom, and dedication, the professionals of the world can help others understand more about jazz music! Together we will shape the love and ability for the future of all musical melody, harmony, and rhythm!!
